From Jo Daniels - Information about Driftwood Event

Hi everyone. I am so sorry I've haven't gotten this out to you, I got sick and zoned it. But this is no excuse so here goes. We are having our first Friday night at Driftwood and I hope you all can come.



The date is September 21.  Dinner is at 7 p.m. Bar opens at noon (yes I said noon...there is a golf tournament group that is going to be there before us)

Dinner choices are:
Fried Chicken $10
Calamari $12
N.Y. Steak      $15

As for berthing, the price is $15 per boat for the first night then $5 for nights following. This is docking in on the old Driftwood guest dock which if I remember will handle around 10 boats. You can call the marina yourself (925-757-9449) or contact me by phone 209-785-5645 and I will call Mike at the marina.

Also both Janice and called Comfort Suites and got rates. She got a rate (yacht club) of $79 and I got (Driftwood's) rate of $89. I do not want to delay this email any longer so I'm putting both rates here and I will get back to you when I have more information. the phone # for Comfort Suites (Oakley) is 925-755-1222.

Most of you already know Kim and Rob Scott who are our new members.  They have already joined us for the Mildred Island raft-up and our Labor Day weekend cruise to Commodore's Island.  They seem to fit right in.  Here is their contact info:

What a fantastic time we had at Commodore's Island.  Marsha and Curt had several hilarious games planned.  They also had a "jungle cruise" planned which was so much fun we had to do it again the next day.  It's so great seeing those we don't see all the time like we used to.  It makes it all the more special.  So talk up our great club to your friends and family with boats.  You never know who might just be wild and crazy enough to join our fun loving group.

From the Commodore


Hi Everyone:

It is hard to believe that we are in September already. 

Since I last blogged, we have enjoyed the Glen Scrimger Memorial Go-Fast, the Mildred Island Anchor-Out, and the Labor Day weekend cruise-out to Commodore’s Island.  All of the events were a blast and we couldn’t have them without members stepping up to organize the events.  Thanks go out to Al and Nancy Laughlin for the planning of the Go-Fast and for hosting us at the Gin Barge.  Chip organized the Mildred Island Anchor-Out and Ted and Jo Anne Lyman helped with the details since Chip was unable to attend.  Kurt and Marsha Hayes did a tremendous amount of work organizing and planning meals and games (including the famous Jungle Cruise) for the cruise-out to Commodore’s Island. Marsha thanked Dave Peck, Betty Griffith and Janice Page who provided courses at the event. Stay-tuned for photos of that event – they certainly won’t be your run-of-the-mill photos . . .

Thanks also go out to Betty Griffith and Marsha Fine worked to hold a silent auction on Commodore’s Island of Ship Store items.  Carolyn Overturf, Steve Kling, Joel Panzer and probably others I am not aware of,  also donated items for the auction. We had a successful event.  
Upcoming Events and Announcements

Please join us at our next event that is on Friday September 21st at Driftwood Yacht Club.  Rear Commodore Jo Daniels will be sending out the details.  You can cruise-in, drive-in or drive and stay at the Comfort Inn Suites down the road.  The bar will be open in the afternoon and dinner will be at 7 p.m.  We hope to see you there!

Going Up River??  - Let Michelle Young know your plans.  Detailed information was sent out via e-mail a few weeks ago. Dates are 9/28 – 10/7/12.  Please come for all or part of the activities.

The annual election is scheduled for Friday October 19th at Driftwood Yacht Club.  More information will follow.  The slate of officers must be sent to the general membership at least 14 days ahead of the election. 

Staff Commodore Kim Sechler is working on 2013 officer nominations.  Please contact her if you are interested in taking on a Board position or want to make a nomination.  Three crucial positions that I believe are still open are:  Rear Commodore, Secretary and Treasurer.

Diane Shoff was appointed by the Board to the 2012 Vice Commodore position.  Diane will advance to the 2013 Commodore position automatically.

We have new members!  Rob and Kim Scott were introduced at Commodore’s Island.  They also joined us at the Mildred Island Anchor-Out.

2012 MEMBERSHIP SURVEY – We mailed the membership a very important planning tool.  Please keep an eye out in your mailboxes for this survey.  Your input and opinions are needed as we start to bring 2012 to a close and begin planning for 2013.

Entertainment Director Janice Page and Vice Commodore Diane Shoff are investigating purchasing a sound system.  The reasoning is as follows:  Hiring a DJ for 3 hours costs $400.  A $400 sound system can be used for future cruise-outs and land-based events, thereby reducing future entertainment expenses.  There is money in the Entertainment budget to cover a purchase of $400-$600 due to only hiring a DJ at one event, and raffle revenue has exceeded our expectations.  Diane and Janice are just researching options and cost at this point, and will be looking for holiday or post-holiday sales.  If you have any questions, know of a great used sound system, or know a DJ who is selling equipment, please contact Diane or Janice. 

In closing, I want to thank everyone who has supported our club this year.  I told myself at the beginning of the year that I would take notes at each event so that I would remember to thank everyone.  I haven’t been keeping that up, so if I forgot someone, I apologize.  Memory issues and getting older SUCK!
