Info about the Willow Berm Cruise/Dinner

To all Caliente Members,

We have 15 boats cruising to Willow Berm Marina over the Memorial Day weekend in addition to 4 members that have a permanent berth at Willow Berm.  If you would like to join your club members by land for a fantastic barbecue on Saturday night, May 25th, please email Kim Sechler at pippsea@yahoo.com, and let her know how many folks you will be bringing.  Please RSVP by Sunday, May 19th. The cost is $10 per person and includes barbecued chicken and a baked potato bar full of good and fattening things to add to that healthy spud! You can pay Kim at the party, and make your checks payable to CIYC. Please bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share with your friends, and your own adult beverage.  Paper plates, silverware, napkins, cups and ice will be provided.  The barbecue will be held at Willow Berm's fantastic Sandbar Cabana commencing at 6:30PM with cocktails, and dinner at 7:00PM.  If arriving by car, enter the Willow Berm facility, pass the guard shack and make the first right turn.  Follow the road to the end and you will see the Sandbar Cabana and grass area to your right.  Park in any open space.  Hope you can join us!

Cheers,

Marsha Hayes

From the Commodore

15 boats cruised over to the Stockton Downtown Marina for the Asparagus Festival last weekend. Another event which was filled to capacity for Caliente Isle Yacht Club cruisers! If you haven’t been to the new harbor and digs in Stockton, you are really missing something. This year we managed to get into the covered berths which were a good thing since the temperatures were in the 80’s. Not bad for April. The winds were calm and the weather was just right. The harbor really goes out of its way to make people feel welcome. Security personnel are constantly walking the docks so we felt quite comfortable in the downtown area. We spent a lot of time on the docks visiting, munching on the copious appetizers, and of course drinking. Many of the cruisers, including myself, went down to the Asparagus Festival to enjoy the many ways one can consume asparagus. French Fried asparagus, asparagus ice cream, magaritas, martinis, etc. can be had by the many vendors at the festival. There were lots of arts and crafts and stuff too. Although the festival may not be held downtown next year, we went ahead and reserved spots for CIYC to cruise in. We can still have fun, with or without the festival. Thanks to Marsha & Curt Hayes along with Dave Peck for organizing this cruise out. Lifetime members, Scott and Diane Beiswanger came along with Dave and Shari Peck, all the way from Louisiana (I don’t think they came just for the Asparagus Festival), and it was sure great to see them. They are truly missed.

Next up is the Memorial Day Cruise out to Willow Berm. There will be a Bocce Ball tournament, and a Potluck dinner at the Sand Bar. More details will be forthcoming from your cruise captains. If you haven’t got a reservation, or would just like to come visit by land yacht, please feel free to drop on in as we will be on the guest dock for the weekend.

July brings the annual Independence Day celebration. While there is not a CIYC cruise or anchor out, some of our members choose to go back to the Stockton Downtown Marina, some stay aboard their boats without cruising, and others anchor out at Mandeville. As most of you know, Mandeville can be hectic and downright scary, with little room to be had for anchoring close in, the closer it gets to July 4th. Everyone is on their own as far as Mandeville goes unless you manage to catch up with some of the members who go there. If you want to cruise out to Stockton, get a hold of Dave Peck as he may be able to get a slip for you and yours.

See you on the water.
