Ahoy Caliente Cruisers--
I am kicking off Caliente Isle Yacht Club’s new monthly e-Newsletter, the
“Commodore’s Chat”, which will be emailed to you the first week of each month
after this inaugural issue. The purpose of the Commodore’s Chat is to provide our
membership with a summary of pertinent club information -- concise and to the
point. The Commodore’s Chat will also be posted on the CIYC website at
www.ciyc.org under the “Blog" tab.
Please let me know what you think of this step to improve club communications.
The annual Commodore’s Ball was held on January 20th at Buon Appitito in
Oakley. We had 49 club members and guests in attendance. I believe that all
enjoyed the food and drink, the awards program and the dancing that followed.
The Board of Directors held its first meeting of the year at the Rusty Porthole on
. The meeting’s highlights include:
Treasurer’s Report—Our Treasurer sees a sound picture for the year. Many
details were in his written report, passed out at the meeting.
Fleet Captain’s Report—We have added a cruise out on April 13-15 to Windmill
Cove, details to follow. In addition to those shown on the calendar, a couple
more cruise outs are shaping up including to the Discovery Bay cruising areas for
June and October. And, jumping way ahead, details on the 34th Annual Down Bay
Cruise Out are coming into focus starting on September 21st at Rusty Porthole on
Bethel Island. We will be departing from there the following day to Benicia YC (1
night), San Rafael YC (2 nights), Alameda’s Ballena Bay (1 night), and wrapping up
with 4 nights at SF’s South Beach Harbor where a few planned activities will mix
with general relaxation and the excitement of everybody’s favorite City. We will
head back to home ports on September 30th. Expect to see many more details on
all cruise outs this year (follow the club calendar at www.ciyc.org).
Membership Report—Understandably, we lost 3 members for 2018 due to moves,
sold boats, etc. But we’ve already added one new membership (former
members, Bob and Charlene Pearce, both Past Commodores). Regrettably, we
have 2 two memberships that are still being bugged to pay up!! Overall, we have
47 members as we start 2018, 6 of which are Lifetime Members.
➢ On a unanimous vote, Gary Page will immediately step into the open Vice
Commodore position from his Rear Commodore position. Diane Shoff will
serve as interim Rear Commodore for 2018, pending our filling that
position. Note: Gary is full of ideas. Hang on!
➢ We will be testing two new payment systems over the next several months,
Square Cash for new member applications and PayPal for other payments.
Details to follow. Hoping to have PayPal up and running for our cruise out
to Windmill Cove!
➢ Steps have already been taken to get our Facebook page more fully
developed. If you aren’t following our FB page, I urge you to go to the
Caliente Isle Yacht Club page and follow us. We will be posting updates,
photos, cruise out invites and even the Commodores Chat on there!
➢ Kim Sechler has asked to step out of the Entertainment Director position, in
favor of staying active in the Ship’s ‘s Store position with husband Mark.
Look for news on a new Entertainment Director.
➢ Final Note: We need you! Please step up to serve as a Cruise Director. The
job is easy, a little communication, some coordination and that’s about it.
Upcoming Events? Mark your calendar…
➢ March 23-25 – Cruise-out to Grindstone Joes
This place offers a unique, very pretty setting off of Little Potato Slough
with lots of decks for lounging on and grass for playing on and good docks
with power. Contact me soon if you want to cruise out with us.
➢ April 13-15 – Cruise-out to Windmill Cove. The Save the date just went out,
but look for more details in my next "Chat"
➢ April 27-29 – Cruise-out to Delta Yacht Club, many more details in my next
